ICI Extinct Species Memorial, Toulouse

This project involves a sculptural, light and sound work named ”Light on Extinct Species”. A conical metal frame 6m high supporting 800 skulls of 47 common species, symbolises those species now extinct. By artists Cathy Connan and Marion Decoust, Les Crâneuses, Stoane Lighting were honoured to sponsor its illumination (exhibited here in Toulouse, France) with lighting designed by friend and loyal patron, Joseph Frey.

The work is a salient reminder that the challenges facing us are huge, and everywhere. The experience made us pause, regroup and spare a thought for what is important and how we, as creatives, makers and collaborators might engage with them more and better.

Sometimes the climate crisis can feel like an overwhelming and insurmountable challenge. How we each navigate our way is a personal journey. Perhaps, if accompanied by similarly energised, informed and determined companions, that journey becomes less dystopian and more of an exciting celebration of creativity, innovation and collaboration?
