The Macallan Distillery
Lighting Design: Speirs Major, Jason Bruges Studio

This landmark project saw one of Scotland’s largest and most respected brands set new standards in both distillery design and visitor experience.
The design team was made up of renowned lighting design firm Speirs Major, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners architects, now RSHP, and exhibition designers, Atelier Brückner. Speirs Major sought to provide functional light for an active distillery and so ATEX certification was required. Their scheme respectfully celebrated the architecture whilst supporting the story surrounding the whisky, The Macallan brand and the architecture’s setting within the famous, remote landscape.
In parallel, Jason Bruges Studio were called in to create a dynamic light show in what's known as the Cave Priveé. At the end of a tour, visitors are immersed in light and sound show surrounded by mesmerising kaleidoscopic effects.
